I don't suppose it's of interest to many people here but maybe one or two. You can currently download a lite version of the U.K. MOD's VBS2 package if you're at all interested in seeing ArmA1 in its military training form. It won't be as pretty as even ArmA1 (let alone ArmA2), in fact much of VBS2 is visually extremely basic (though there are also parts that aren't) because it's a no-nonsense training tool but as fan of the series I am interested in seeing how it differs. It does have the FLIR implementation that is destined in some form for Operation Arrowhead and other features we'd all love to have in ArmA like the ability to shoot from vehicles. Anyway, it's 2.3GB and you can download it after first registering at http://www.jcove-lite.co.uk/.

While there currently are no dedicated servers, you can play together with friends using Hamachi (freeware). You can now join the JCOVE Lite Hamachi group. You will require these details:
Network Name: VBS2 JCOVE Password: abc123
Samawah (pictured in the link above) is apparently included.

"It takes real effort and co-ordination to enjoy ArmA II at its best. You'll need upwards of 20 friends, all taking part in a joint-arms exercise, within a tactically orientated clan. At that level, as you listen in to voice--coms, waiting for your commander to give the strike order, you'll discover that ArmA II is extraordinary."

Apparently the largest of 5 patches in as many months, a Linux dedicated server and BattlEye anti-cheat wasn't enough...
ARMA 2 PATCH V.1.05 ANNOUNCED, INCLUDES FREE DLC
Prague, Czech Republic, December 11th 2009 – As a continuous commitment to its dedicated fans, Bohemia Interactive, an award winning independent development studio, and IDEA Games, an association of independent developers located in the Czech Republic, today release an exclusive sneak peek teaser video together with pack of four screenshots introducing the forthcoming patch which will upgrade the military simulator ARMA 2 to version 1.05.
The video, available for download at http://www.arma2.com, introduces the bonus campaign “Eagle Wing“ featuring the new AH-64 Apache attack helicopter. The “Eagle Wing“ mini-campaign expands upon one of the seven unique endings of the original ARMA 2 over two extensive new levels; It's the year 2012, the war in Chernarus has overgrown into a conflict between the USA and the Russian Federation. The player finds themselves caught in the middle of an escalating conflict. As a pilot of the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter, the player's task seems easy - to get behind enemy lines and attack. However the situation is about to change rapidly...
I like what this says about their confidence in the appeal of Operation Arrowhead, the Apache was a big draw in that announcement:
